To all Guild Members and Honorary Members and Collectors.
EFFECTIVE: OCT, 2001

Due to the recent terrorist attack on US citizens at the Pentagon, and the World Trade Center, all Airlines have been forced to increase all security measures at airports. There are a lot of false rumors going around about restrictions on carry on baggage and baggage that will be checked in at the ticket counter.
The Knifemakers Guild has placed calls to most of the Major Airlines regarding these issues.
The results of these calls are as follows:
  • No knives of any type or anything vaguely resembling a knife will be allowed past the Security Checkpoint and you must have at least one Federal or State picture ID during all phases of check in and for admittance past any security check points.

  • On checked in baggage there has been no change in regulations, you will be allowed to have knives in checked in baggage only! They must be wrapped or packaged in a secure manner within your checked in baggage.

  • It was suggested that it may be to your advantage to have a list of these knives and a statement of the reason you are traveling with them (such as) a knife show circular or simply a statement from you in written form stating why you are carrying these in your baggage. This was a suggestion only from the Airlines Officials and not a hard requirement.

Again let me reiterate, NO KNIVES ALLOWED ON PERSON OR IN CARRY ON LUGGAGE!!!

In Closing: Go to the Shows, have fun, sell a lot of knives, and follow the above guidelines regarding baggage and we shouldn't encounter any problems.
Please! When you receive this as an email, forward it to your Fellow Guild Members and Customers in Your address book, lets get the word out, we don't want anybody to be hassled at the airports about knives.
